Paula Brusky

Paula Brusky is an internationally recognized bassoonist and the founding director of the Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition Inc. Brusky was awarded the Endeavor International Postgraduate Research Scholarship to attend the University of Sydney for her PhD. Her research on musculoskeletal disorders in bassoon players has made her a sought after guest lectures on injury prevention for musicians. Some of the places she has presented include the International Double Reed Society Conference, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Michigan, the San Francisco Conservatory, and the Performing Arts Medicine Association Conference. Dr. Brusky is a Lecture at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Music Business, an adjunct Assistant Professor at St Norbert College in Bassoon Performance and a Research Affiliate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Sydney in Australia. While in Australia Brusky was front of house manager for the Sydney Conservatorium, principal bassoon with the Sydney Chamber Orchestra and freelanced extensively. Her first CD was released in 2011 on MSR Classics entitled “Bassoon and Friends: Winning Works of the 2010 Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competiton.” Previously Brusky received a Master of Music from Indiana University with a cognate minor in business and a Bachelor of Music, cum laude, from Northwestern University with a minor in music business. Outside of music Brusky owns a dance fitness studio and is an avid scuba diver.
