Bart Walters is an active performer, chamber musician, teacher, and the soprano saxophonist of the Classic City Saxophone Quartet. Walters is currently ABD for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Saxophone Performance at The University of Georgia. During his time at the University of Georgia, he studied saxophone with Joseph Wytko and the late Kenneth Fischer. As a performer, he was the principal saxophonist with the University of Georgia Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John P. Lynch and the lead alto in jazz ensemble. Additionally, he holds a minor in musicology with an emphasis in popular music. As a musicologist, he has taught undergraduate courses in both the History of Rock Music and a Survey of Jazz History. His dissertation and current research focuses on the interaction of post-tonal music and sonata forms. Bart holds the Bachelor of Music Degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Florida where he studied with Kandace Brooks and a Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of West Georgia where he was a student of John Bleuel. He has had additional studies with renowned concert saxophonists Claude Delangle and Eugene Rousseau. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, he served as a saxophonist in the United States Army for eleven years quickly moving up through the enlisted ranks attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Bart had various assignments with Army Bands throughout the United States, highlighted by an assignment with The United States Army Ground Forces Band in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was featured multiple times as a soloist with the concert band and toured as a member of the Jazz Guardians. He has numerous solo and chamber performances at Regional and National Biennial meetings of the North American Saxophone Alliance. Versed in both jazz and classical styles he has performed with such renowned artists as Jamey Aebersold, Brian Bowman, Velvet Brown, Dave Brubeck, Claude Delangle, Conrad Hertwig, Brad Leali, Darmon Meader, Bobby Shew, Peter Sommer, and Chris Vadala.
