Alexandra Monchick

Alexandra Monchick holds a BMusA with highest honors in flute performance from the University of Michigan and a PhD in historical musicology from Harvard with a dissertation entitled Silent Opera: The Manifestation of Silent Film Techniques in Opera during the Weimar Republic. From 2007-2009, she was a research fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin under the auspices of the Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies. Dr. Monchick has presented her work at conferences in Berlin, London, Philadelphia, and most recently, Santa Barbara. She is in the process of expanding her dissertation into a monograph on the intersections between opera and film in the interwar years. Other current projects include an article on depictions of the Italian Renaissance in early twentieth-century opera and a study investigating the relationship between performers and composers of the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center. She is Assistant Professor of Musicology at California State University Northridge.
